Simple Sunday - Josiah's Raised Hands

~ thankful for the hands of my firstborn...hands that clap, draw, grasp, give a high five, hold, get dirty, get clean, hug, etc...
...and thankful that I learned how to put text on a picture...there is so much computer stuff that I'm still clueless about, but it's a good feeling to take a small step forward in this area! :)

    I like this. I hope to get more into the editting thing this year. SO MUCH to learn. My new camera lens didn't turn out to be the best idea for now, so I think it will "turn into" the laptop I've been waiting for. It's time to get educated! I also hope to take the photog course at BRCC. We'll see.

    I've enjoyed peeking into your life, you do a beautiful job with your blog!

    I could use a little lesson about writing on pictures...any tips about where to look? Is it Photoshop? Is that a silly question?

    Margie, that is not a silly question. :) I know that lots of people use Photoshop, and that it's an incredible editing tool. Someday I may venture into the Photoshop realm; but for now, I use a program called Picasa 3 by Google. From what I understand, it's free. How we got it, I have no idea. My wonderful husband makes things magically appear on our computer screen, and then he teaches me how to use it (as much as I can learn anyway). :)

    With Picasa, I had learned how to crop, straighten, lighten, darken, turn into black & white or sepia, blur around an image, etc. I certainly don't do editing on every photo I take; most that I post are SOOC. (I'm so proud of myself that I know what that means! it's Straight Out Of Camera which you probably knew already, and that's about all the photography jargon I'm familiar with.) :)

    With Picasa 3, which we just recently upgraded to, there's a simple function called Text that I used to write on the picture.

    And that's how I do it!

    If you need more info, ask away; I'll get my resident computer expert to answer! :)

    Davene..the goal when you are taking a picture is to have it be exactly what you want SOOC with no need for PP anyway(Post-processing/editing- hey now you know another!) I'm still working on getting that good though and still edit slightly almost all the photos that I keep (except simple snapshots) If you can with that program you should sharpen them a touch before you post them online becuase they loose some of their sharpness out in cyberspace..lol. They call it sharpening for web - google it (Save that as a seperat copy than any that you wnt to print becuase the sharpened one might be too sharp printed!) Sorry to ramble - you are doing great!

    I think it's a cool photo with a cool new trick...way to go with the text! I am giggling about your question on my blog of baby names...we are still thinking, of course, narrowing it down! Hopefully by the time this little one gets here, something will fit! :)

    As far as how I did this, if you refer up to my previous comment on this post (#6) and then especially my husband's comment (#8), it should be helpful. (By the way, I totally understand not reading every comment, so if you skipped over this, don't worry at all about it!) :) Jeff linked to the free editing software that we use, and which I am only starting to explore. Using that program, I was able to convert the photo to B&W, fiddle around with the lightening and darkening to get it the way I wanted, and then on the main section of Picasa is a button on the left called "Text." Pressing that brings up a screen dealing with text: what size, font, color, etc.

    Let me know if you try it and it doesn't work for some reason. I'd be glad to try to help you further if I can; and if I can't, I'll ask Jeff. :)
