I Wish I Were Him

First off, I wish I could remember if it's grammatically correct to say, "I wish I were him," or "I wish I was him." Seems to me that the latter is more commonly heard, but the first is actually correct. I have always loved grammar, but I wish I could remember its rules better! But on to the real topic..

I wish I were Josiah, relaxing on our swing with a pile of books to read, a pillow to lean on, and a light blanket in case the breeze in the shade was chilly (the only thing I would add is a tall glass of Quick Refresher!). I wish someone told me to spend a two-hour afternoon quiet time like this.
On second thought, there's no way in the world I'd be able to spend a two-hour quiet time reading books because within 15 minutes or less (unless it really was a keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat book), I'd surely be fast asleep. But that would be nice: read for a few minutes on this swing, drink a little Quick Refresher, then fall asleep. What could be better?

Except this...
I wish I were David, taking a nap with Jeff on the couch, oblivious to the world. This is really the best way to take a nap, cuddling with Jeff.
That's what I used to do, B.C. (before children). Sometimes I have to remind the boys teasingly, "I was there first!" when they snag that position before me. Yeah, it's true. About 7 years ago, that was me. Maybe in another 10 or 15 years, it will be me again. :)

oh -those quiet times look lovely!

like you-I'd love to be able to read for 2 hours, but I'd be fast asleep within minutes! :)

it has been swing weather here too, and oh do I wish we had a swing or hammock!

I was browsing thru my archives this AM and found a comment I missed somehow last Fall.
You mentioned not going overboard on school with Audrey.THANK YOU!! I have been a bit stressed out since I have not been consistant, and you are right, she learns a lot by observing. It was great how the Lord led me to this right when I needed it, thank-you again!

This is a really neat post. I love the pictures! Your children are very blessed to have you and Jeff as parents. You're doing a terrific job.

It's "I wish I were", the tense is subjunctive, used when the action isn't a concrete reality. I actually know this from 4 years of French not from English. :P

I love your blog. I read it every morning when I get off work. I don't get to spoon with my hubbs anymore either, as he works 2nd and I work 3rds. Jackie

Josiah's pose certainly looks comfy.

Back in the day, before I started going to school, working, and trying to keep a house, I regularly fell asleep with a book in a yard swing.

Back in high school, I was always getting locked out of the house when my parents didn't realize that I'd fallen asleep on my book OUTSIDE instead of in my bed. If the nights got a bit too cold, I'd slip into the family van for the last few hours of night before the rest of the family woke up.

Ah, fond memories!

Thank you, Jackie! Ah, yes, subjunctive! That rings a bell...somewhere in the back of my head. :) I'm glad my suspicion was right, and I do appreciate you confirming it for me!

Welcome to my blog, and thanks for leaving a comment. It's always nice to "meet" a new reader. :)

What a sweet post. I am the same way about falling asleep while reading a book. Give me less then a chapter and I am off to sleep.

Hope your day is blessed!

Ah, the beloved daily QUIET TIME! In this house, it is a MUST! I love seeing little boys chill for a bit. There is plenty of time to be boys the rest of the day, but two hours of quiet is good for their souls...and for mama's soul!
