He Says He Wants to Garden

A little while back, Jeff announced that this year, he wanted to be actively involved in our garden. He was so serious about this that he asked if we could change our typical evening schedule so that he could have time to work in the garden as soon as he got home from work, and then eat supper after that (because when that man eats a big meal, he's practically worthless afterwards). ;)

Tonight was the first night of our new plan, and this was the scene around here about 6:45 - three boys and their daddy, wearing jackets because of the chilly air (we've had gorgeous weather recently, but today was cool), working together in the garden (or not working, if you're Tobin; he did a lot of observing though).
So what if we didn't eat supper until 8:00 PM? The boys had an afternoon snack to tide them over. I think we'll be able to adjust to this new schedule without too much trouble. And if it means help in the garden, I'm all for it!
The first project in the garden? Planting onions, of course!

I often think that it's good to be the cook because I get to make whatever I want to eat. In the same way, it's good to be the gardener because you get to plant whatever you like. In Jeff's case, that means onions!

I have to say I'm jealous of your garden. Our home is in the woods and we have a number of pests that invade anything we plant - rabbits, and our personal nemesis - the deer. The deer even eat the plants that are supposed to be deer-proof. LOL! Oh well. Your garden looks great - enjoy!!!

we are so excited to get our garden going that we can hardly wait. we think it is going to be warm enough and then it dumps snow on us. Hopefully this week we will be able to get something in the ground and covered by a hoop house. I love how big your garden is. I think it is great that he is wanting to be more involved. I would gladly hold off dinner as well.

I think this is so wonderful. Andrew is extremely NOT into gardening, so it's all my business. I'm not sure we'll have a garden this year. The new septic tank was put in the middle of our garden plot, and right now we are trying to get some grass growing around the house. After that's able to be driven over, then we could see about getting someone to plow up a new spot. But, I have so much going on right now, I don't know how I could fit a garden in! I would like to get a few tomato plants stuck in the ground somewhere, even if it's a flower bed.

Enjoy your gardeners and your garden!
