So far, we have made funnel cakes for breakfast (our traditional first-day-of-school breakfast).
So far, we have read about Isaiah and Daniel from The Jesus Storybook Bible (which I am loving).
So far, we have had a friend drop by and have enjoyed an impromptu visit with her and her two cute kiddos.
So far, my mother has prepared 7 quarts of peaches for canning in my kitchen.
So far, we haven't covered all the subjects I thought we would discuss during our first day of school.
So far, our day hasn't gone as planned--not as I planned anyway.
So far, this is my favorite from our customary first-day-of-school photos.
They're so sweet, I could eat 'em up with a spoon.

Your first day of school breakfast is the same as our first day of summer breakfast!
Awww..they ARE so cute! I love how the little ones are looking up at their big brothers.
I agree that we should meet up sometime again soon. I'm actually transferring to EMU, so I won't be going back to MC after all. {Mixed feelings.}
So cute, Davene! I miss you all!
That's a great picture. I'm so impressed with all you accomplished on your first day of school. We are back to bare survival over here. No school in sight.
Very cute photo--I love how Tobin's overall strap is falling down, and how the two little guys are so literally "looking up to" their big brothers.
While my mom did a fantastic job of homeschooling me and my siblings, I think the one thing I'd change if I were homeschooling would be the school year schedule. The traditional school year begins in the height of tomato canning season--and since my mom put up at least 200 qts of tomatoes every year, she was always busy, busy, busy when we were starting school. Sometimes you just can't fit everything in--and I think it's okay to rearrange school to more convenient times. (At least, that's my take :-P)
200 quarts?? Goodness gracious! That's a lot of tomatoes! How in the world did she ever use all those tomatoes? I've got a few recipes that use the tomatoes I've canned this year, but I'm on the lookout for more recipes. :)
I totally agree with you about adapting the school schedule to fit the "life schedule." So true! And that's one of the beauties of homeschooling. :)
That is a great picture of the boys. I'm determined to take a first day and last day of school photo. I've enjoyed seeing how much your kiddos have changed in just one year. Oh, and I'm totally jealous of your van. :-) I even told my husband about and he wanted to see it! I guess I'll bring him to your home on the web to see it :-)
Well, there were the seven of us kids for a total of nine--and all of us were big eaters (I estimate that each of us kids ate at least 3000 calories per day growing up--our metabolism, at least as children, was crazy).
We ate a lot of spaghetti, chili, lasagna, and homemade tomato soup.
Mom's still working on adjusting her cooking and canning down now that she only has two at home.
I love your boys! -Abby
